Welcome Note

Dear Parents and Pupils,

Welcome to our Class Website. It is my hope that this site will be a supplemental source of information, encouragement and communication for all of us.

In the Class Photographs section, please feel free to forward me some photographs or notes of encouragement (via email) for your child and for the rest of his classmates.

For pupils, you will be able to find your spelling/dictation lists as well as datelines for your major assignments under the Assignments section. I have also included a small section of Study Tips to aid us in our learning journey. If you have any useful websites to recommend, please forward the link to us so that I can share it with the class.

I look forward to a wonderful partnership with you as we strive for all-rounded excellence and achievement!

Sincerely,

Mr Morgan Zhou

Introduction Letter

29 November 2007

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Thank you for taking time to read my letter.

Let me take this opportunity to thank the wonderful parents (of Bryan, Douglas, Wen Shuen, Jared Hoe, Keefe, Kim, Matthew, Terry, Ryan and Daniel) whom I have worked with in Class 4.4 for 2007. I am really glad to be able to partner you again for 2008. For our new parents, I also wish to extend a warm welcome to you and your Boys Aleister, Arhaan, Rohen, Justin, Nethaniel, Rafael, Sebastian, Daryl, Ian, Elton, Reuben, Jared Steve, Jarrett, Joshua, Lionel, Ethan, Farid, Shaanan, Heng Soon, Benedict, Andrew and Jun-E into our class.

My name is Morgan and I will be the form teacher of 5.5 for 2008.

12 of my formative years were spent with the Anglo-Chinese family (ACS(Junior), ACS(Independent) and ACJC) before I completed my undergraduate studies at the National University of Singapore. After my teacher training at the National Institute of Education, I was posted back to ACS(Junior) as a teacher. I am currently pursuing my Masters in Education (English Language) and will be looking to use my training to help your child realize his academic goals.

I hope to pass on the vision of what the school stands for to your Boy as we work towards academic and all-rounded excellence. Let me say that your Boy has a calling, a life purpose to be all that he can be, to maximize the innate potential within himself. The work that we do here in ACS(Junior) has implications for his studies, but its ramifications reach far wider than that. I will do my best to help your son develop his giftedness, improve upon his weaknesses and find his place in community life with his peers and friends.

To aid us in this learning journey, I have also prepared a class website (http://www.morgangela.com/class55.htm) as a supplemental source of information, encouragement and communication tool for all of us. Feel free to drop me a note anytime via email (morganzhou@gmail.com) if you would like to update me on any matter.

On another note, please get your Boys to make use of this holiday to prepare ahead for 2008 by reading up on his Primary 5 work (I am giving some samples of the kinds and difficulty of Math Questions they will encounter next year. This can be found under the study tips section of the class webpage). The Primary 5 year is fraught with interruptions and I hope to give our Boys a head start in their studies. The Ministry (of Education) is also gearing up towards promoting reading in schools (a nationwide initiative for 2008 and beyond) and some books will be made available for each classroom. Reading is fundamental to good language command and ability. It is my desire to expand the variety of books available in our 5.5 Classroom and I seek your support (this is entirely voluntary) in donating books which you feel will interest our Boys and engage them in their learning. We really want to see them liking and reading varieties of genres (prose, poetry, instructional/scientific text) to increase their fluency and language repertoire. Please get your Boy to bring them to class on the first day of school in 2008. I will then work out a system of getting the Boys to complete reading and benefiting from as many books possible.

Let me take this opportunity to thank you in advance for your support and partnership as we work towards raising aspiring, confident, caring servant leaders who are a joy to self and others! I will be leaving for a holiday, with my wife, to Japan shortly so I seek your pardon if I do reply your emails soon enough if they are starting to come in this December. On behalf of my wife and I, we wish you and your families a blessed Christmas and a happy New Year!

Yours sincerely,

Morgan Zhou You Qin
